History in the making?

Reading FCThe history books will show a 2-2 draw in the FA Cup 5th Round match between Reading and West Bromwich Albion, but the record books will also show the fastest ever goal scored in an FA Cup proper match. This was, in the end, a thrilling cup tie between two clubs at opposite ends of the same division. But nobody would have predicted such a start from the Royals with Jimmy Kebe scoring after just 9 seconds…and it wasn’t even Reading who kicked off!

As it is, my home town team will be in the Quarter FInal draw for the world’s greatest cup competition – something not achieved in 83 years when they were paired with, and beat, Swansea City in 1927. Of course, the small matter of a reply at The Hawthorns has to be overcome first before making history – in my lifetime at least. Even better news is that I’ll be working a mere 30 miles away that day, so I fully expect to be there on the night.
