As I write this, Ericsson 3 and Ericsson 4 are currently tearing across the Atlantic. Having been beaten to the Leg 7 scoring gate by two of their main rivals [Puma and Telefonica Blue] both crews will be eager to overturn that, arrive at the Irish seaport known as the City of Tribes and claim podium finishes to which they have been accustomed to on the last two legs.
I arrived in Galway this morning (daily flights direct, and empty, from Luton thankfully!) and almost immediately you can sense a level of expectation and excitement among the locals as the Volvo Ocean Race comes to town – the biggest sporting event that Ireland has hosted since the Ryder Cup in 2006. Banners, posters, flags and Volvo branding seem to adorn every road around the city. The huge unsightly oil tankers we saw in the last Spotlight TV News have now been demolished and in it’s place is the heart of the stopover, the Race Village. Free live music and entertainment is on the agenda for the full two weeks of the event – with the Irish keen to make their own stamp on the race festivities.

For Ericsson, participation in this global event provides a unique environment in which to engage with our customers and promote ourselves as an innovative business partner. A number of themes will be adopted and used in conjunction with customer demonstrations such Mobile Broadband Evolution, The Connected Home, The TV Experience as well as other key areas of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability.

Of course it’s only Tuesday and the main events and customer activities for us won’t start until next Monday for what will be a full and memorable experience for everyone. But even now the the Ericsson demonstration area is taking shape, with members of the global project team working flat out to have everything ready for a full practice and run-through at the weekend.

You can follow us daily in Galway via Twitter as we prepare for the arrival of the teams this weekend plus lining up exclusive interviews with customers and Ericsson hosts throughout the stopover. We’ll be publishing regularly internally on the Spotlight blog with photos too as well as a few Spotlight TV News shows.
